The position supports all the network and Voice over IP (VOIP) infrastructure hardware/software installations, configurations, patch management, and related hardware/software monitoring solutions.Strategic PlanningConsult with customers or other departments on project status, proposals and technical issues such as software system design and maintenance.Analyze information to determine, recommend, and plan installation of a new system or modification of an existing system.Consult with technical staff to evaluate interface between hardware and software, develop specifications and performance requirements and resolve customer problems.Secures the network infrastructure by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation procedures and documentationEvaluate and recommend support tools, applications, and/or appliances to improve the technical operation.Assess and plan for near- and long-term network capacity needs.Technical/Administrative/ClericalMonitor, implement, and support all network based hardware and enterprise applications.Monitor system logs and activity on all network installed solutions for availability, utilization, throughput and/or latency.Maintains network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalating problems to vendor.Manage distribution and coordinate installation of software updates (applications, firmware, and/or bios) for network solutions.Maintain and monitor network device configurations.Determine licensing requirements for various network solutions.Develop strategies for integrating new network solutions into the existing infrastructure.Assist with disaster recovery planning and testing.Adapt existing network and VOIP solutions to improve performance, correct errors or to conform to new hardware or standards.Store, retrieve, and manipulate data for analysis of system capabilities and requirements.Act as primary point of contact with all telecom, network and/or voice vendors/partners.Update existing or recommend new network policies and procedure.Develop network requirements and recommend solutions.Perform other office duties as assigned by manager.Keywords: Network, Engineer, LAN, WAN, VOIP, UUG2Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in information technology or Computer Science or an equivalent level of technical certifications.Minimum of three (3) years of practical experience with LAN/WAN network administration.Minimum of two (2) years working with Phone system applications (Avaya Communication Manager preferred)Two (2) or more years of experience with VOIP and SIP technologies.Practical experience with Windows OS networking.Networking/VOIP technical certifications are a plus.Travel:Requires 25% travel to remote field sites as needed.Knowledge, Competencies & Skills:Excellent customer service skillsCommunication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills – effectively communicate issues and resolutions to all levels of the organizationUnderstanding of Network Design and ImplementationUnderstanding of SIP and VOIP concepts and capabilitiesWorking technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet Standards such as OSPF, BGP, IPSEC, RIP, and EIGRPKnowledge of router and switch configuration concepts and methodologiesExcellent knowledge of TCP/IP protocols LDAP, DNS, WINS, DHCP, DFS, IPS, and IIS administrationDemonstrates knowledge of security principles related to network operationsCompetency with testing tools, procedures, and methodologiesAbility to maintain confidentiality with sensitive customer and internal informationAbility to demonstrate time management skills and ability to handle multiple priorities with shifting time frames, and meet tight deadlines, self-starter with a high degree of initiative, urgency, and follow-throughPhysical Requirements for the job:Regularly required to sit 4-7 hours/day and stand 1-3 hours/day.Intermittently required to stoop, bend, speak, and listen.Frequently lift and or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.Willing and able to travel to remote field sites as needed.
